Stand out in a crowd!

A Chinese mother of identical 6-year-old quadruplet boys shaved numbers into their hair to help their teachers tell them apart. She decided to shave the numbers 1-4 in the order that the quadruplets were born. Their mother explained that they were identical even to her and her husband; the only difference between the four was the shape of their eyelids. The numbers ended up being a huge help to their teachers in telling them apart, and the boys are doing well in their four separate classrooms.

Marketing application

What does your business look like from the outside looking in? Are your customers able to distinguish your brand from your competitors? As a business owner it can be tempting to be very competitor centered- what I mean by this is that you are always comparing yourself to your competition and always trying to keep up with the Jones or Kardashians or who ever.  Instead we need to shift our focus to our customers. How are they seeing us? Do we need to do something crazy like shave numbers into our heads so their can distinguish us from the rest of the business world? Is your company blending into the corporate crowd?

Strive to stand out, or at least be #1

We live in a competitive world with very few monopolies, which means we need to make ourselves memorable. If your product is the same as your competitors, consider releasing it in different colors or change up your packaging to catch the eyes of consumers. If customers complain about your customer service, then train your employees how to be more service oriented and empower them to go above and beyond for customer needs. If your marketing campaigns aren’t very creative, take a risk and put your business out there in a different way. Make your customers laugh, give them a reason to like you and rank you as their number 1 or better yet, their only one.

If looking at your competition is like looking in a mirror, it’s time to change things up! A good shake up is good for your business now and then. Don’t be afraid of change, the ability to change is often what sets the industry leaders apart from the rest. Creative marketing campaigns are often the first step to standing out in the crowd, because marketing is the vehicle companies use to communicate with their customers. Find your niche and then create a marketing campaign to attract your target audience. Stand out and be seen!
