Goal Planning for Social Media Marketing

How can you get where you want to be if you don’t know where you’re going? Like all successful strategies, your social media marketing should begin by setting goals and objectives. In this post we are going to get you started on the right track for your social media marketing planning!

Reach – Who is your target audience?  How large is it?

Marketing 101 tells us to always start any marketing strategy by defining our target audience. Who are the people you are trying to talk to? What are their interests and hobbies? What is their social media personality? Start by defining your audience and then make your strategy unique to them.

Engage – What is your desired level of engagement?

The next goal you need to define is the level of engagement you wish to have with your social media followers. Do you want to just share information with them? Or perhaps you wish to allow for more conversations in an open forum? Do you want to know what your followers are doing for Thanksgiving? Really think about how much interaction you desire with your followers and then make sure your social media posts or tweets coincide with your goals.

Take action – How likely are prospects to take action based on engagement with your brand?

What do you want your audience to do after they read your social media posts? Is your goal to have your customers break down your doors after they read about your black Friday specials? Or is your goal to have your followers simply comment on, like, and share your posts? Always try to think one step ahead of your followers and ask yourself “what will they will do next after reading this?”

Share – Is the experience you’re offering to your customers exceptional enough for them to share with their communities?

The global grapevine of social media can either make or break your business. We all know that customers are more likely to share negative experiences they encounter while out shopping—So ask yourself how can your business sweep them off their feet so much that they feel the need to give you a good review on social media or share your content?

We hope this post helped you define your social media goals so that you may have greater success in the future!
