Common social media mistakes

These days almost everyone, whether it is an individual or business, wants their existence to be made known on social media sites.  These sites can be a great asset to your business, if they are used correctly.  To help you on your journey to making the most out of social media for your business endeavors, here are some commonly made mistakes to avoid like the plague.

Mistake #1

Diving head first into social media marketing without a plan

This mistake can be detrimental to your business because, often times a company will join a social network create a profile, and then shortly after become nonexistent. Even if you get off to a great start with an elaborate social media launch, unless you keep up with it, people will become bored and move on.  There is a vast amount of entertaining social media out there today, so keeping yours fresh and up to date will keep everyone looking at you instead of your competition.

Mistake #2

Expecting followers, but not being a follower

In order to make your social media presence recognized it is important to recognize the presence of others on social media.  One of the best ways to gain friends or followers is to become one to others using the site you’re on.  It is virtually impossible the second you join social media that people will flock to your site without anyone pushing them in your direction.  Make sure someone is responsible for being that driving force for your business.  The more you participate and get to know others on social media, the more success you will likely achieve. Social media marketing costs little or nothing, so invest your time in it instead.

Mistake #3

Spamming

Being present often on social media sites is good, overloading people with endless amounts of links and posts, however, is not.  This is a huge mistake people make which can have many pushing the unfollow button in a hurry. Try to keep posts or links relevant to your business purposes, and maybe an occasional post that is entertaining in general. If people are looking at your site, chances are they are expecting to see something in line with what field you’re involved in.

Mistake #4

Having no target market

Defining your target market is very important because your product or service is likely not for everyone.  If you get to know the specific people who your product attracts, then you can find their consumption patterns and put social media marketing to better use.  This will also assist you in building better relationships with your friends and followers, which is key.

Mistake #5

Giving up before you hit your stride

Something that is very important to remember is that social media marketing will take time. It will be easy in the beginning to just throw in the towel because you’re not seeing results, but don’t give up!  Unfortunately, it is not an instant solution to all the marketing problems you have ever experienced, but if you keep with it great results will follow.  If you have a solid plan and someone keeping your sites up to date with great relevant content, you can build a large following and successfully use social media to help grow your business.
